I know it feels like they’ve only just gone back to school, but most kids are breaking up today for a 2 week Easter break. Some parents are jumping for joy, but I know there are some parents a little bit apprehensive about it all too. I personally am just glad that I don’t have to do any home learning as I really struggled with that. Here are some ideas to keep your little ones busy over the Easter holidays.
Plant some seeds:
It’s a great time to get potting. Even if you don’t have a big garden you can plant a few sunflower seeds – my daughter loves this activity – she loves playing with the soil and putting in the seeds, and she loves watering it and watching the seeds grow. You can keep them on a warm sunny windowsill until they’re established before planting them outside. If you have a big garden or allotment why not plant some veggies too!
Baking:
I know it sounds like lockdown 1 all over again but we love baking !! Banana Bread, biscuits or cakes. Most supermarkets sell cupcake kits for around £1. All you do is add an egg, some oil and water and they make the tastiest cupcakes. They come with icing and decorations and will keep your little ones occupied for an hour or so before they try and eat them all in one go!
A treasure hunt:
If the weather is nice – why not draw / make a treasure map together. Parents can plan out the route in a local woods / park and then head out and find that treasure. Don’t forget to hide the treasure without them seeing before you start. The treasure could be something as simple as a chocolate coin or you could make it Easter Themed and hide an Easter egg
Disney Day:
We love Disney movies in our house. Our Disney + subscription has just renewed and we love getting some snacks and cosying up under a blanket watching old and new Disney films. We watched Raya and the Last Dragon last week and loved it. If your kids are Disney fans too, they could dress up for the occasion. This is perfect for those wet weather days.
Easter Crafting
Whether its Amazon Prime or Hobbycraft click and collect – there are so many Easter bits out there that you can use to make a fun Easter Bonnet. You can also use things from around the house, flowers from the garden, leaves etc too. If bonnets are not your thing, you could decorate a bucket/bag to collect Easter Eggs in next week. I love getting my glue gun out and just remember – the mess won’t be there forever, just enjoy it and clean it up when they’re in bed (or at the end of the holidays)
