We’ve been chatting to Helen from Cuddledry to find out more about them as a company.
We asked them why they started the company?
Cuddledry was founded when Helen and Polly watched their husbands struggle to wrap their babies up after having a bath one evening. One had a towel spread out on the floor, the other was struggling to clamp one under his chin. Both were wrestling with a tiny, wriggling and slippery baby. Both babies were crying at this point – the whole thing was so stressful. They knew there had to be an easier way and before long, the Handsfree towel was born. It seemed so simple – a towel that could be worn like an apron to keep you dry, and to leave two hands free to lift the baby safely from the water. Their range grew from there and they’ve always strived to make products that are helpful, making life simpler for parents and safer for baby. They believe that bath time is a uniquely special time and that every moment should be filled with treasured smiles and laughter.
2020 has been a tough year for everyone, what challenges have you faced and have things changed for you and your business?
‘2020 has been a rollercoaster in so many ways and as a small business, like many others, we’d be lying if I said we hadn’t struggled. But one of the things we’ve always been very proud of is the strong team we have working for us here at Cuddledry. The business started with two mums working from the kitchen table and today the entire team work remotely from their own homes, from all across the UK. This made the transition from ‘normal life’ to lockdown life that little bit easier for us all – we’d already been working this way for years! Yes, home school certainly made it a little more challenging for us all, but we’ve always prided ourselves on being flexible employers so that mums never felt they couldn’t put their families first when they needed to. Turns out 2020 was the year nobody predicted, but luckily Cuddledry was more than well prepared and we’ve been able to adapt pretty well on reflection.’
What is your favourite quote?
“The future belongs to those who prepare for it today” (Malcom X)- never so true than during a global pandemic! It started with a wobble, but Cuddledry are emerging from this year stronger as a team and we’re ready for anything that 2021 might throw at us!
What is your favourite treat after a hard day?
‘A nice big glass of wine!’
What plans do you have for 2021?
We have lots of plans for 2021- none that we’re able to reveal just yet, sadly! We’re keen to continue on our path towards reducing our carbon emissions as a business, and we have plans to do more for our local communities too. As for the range- watch this space!
